The United States of America gained independence on 4^th July 1776, all due to the efforts of the Founding Fathers. Our Founding Fathers were a group of prosperous businessmen and plantation owners. This group brought 13 diverse colonies together, battled for independence from Britain, and created a series of powerful documents that continue to guide the country today.

Although its impossible to put down the vast achievements of these great individuals, here are some prominent founding fathers of America and their accomplishments.

George Washington

George Washington is known as the “Father of The Country”, but before George Washington could rebel against the British, he fought against them as a chief in the French and Indian War. George Washington was a wealthy farmer in Virginia, owning numerous lands. However, with time, he began resenting the British imposed restriction and taxes on them.

After the Revolutionary War in 1775, he was appointed leader of the Continental Army. However, he was defeated in the Battle of Brooklyn. But his defeat didn’t end there, and he lost many battles. But that didn’t stop him! Despite his defeats, he guided his motley men at Valley Forge during a bitterly cold winter, and with the support of his French allies, he was able to get rid of the British by 1783.

George Washington returned to Virginia in hopes of continuing his farming career. However, he was convinced to return to politics, where he was appointed the head of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. He believed that the nation needed a stronger federal government to prosper, which is why he re-entered politics. Fortunately, his efforts were fruitful, and he was elected the United States’ first president.

When Washington took office, the United States just had 11 states and 4 million people with no standard of how the president should conduct foreign and domestic affairs. However, Washington was an intelligent man with principles, and he set examples of justice, integrity, and prudence.

Alexander Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton is also one of the founding fathers of the nation. He was the United States’ first Secretary of the Treasury and is still the face of the ten-dollar bill. Although he was a poor orphan, he went on to do great things for the American people. He immigrated to New York from British West Indies when he was a teenager. Throughout the Revolutionary War, he was recognized as an aide-de-camp to George Washington and believed that the Nation required a strong government.

In 1787, after his appearance at the Constitutional Convention, he penned mainly all of the Federalist Papers along with James Jay and John Madison, who fought for the Constitution’s approval. He was then appointed as the first United States Treasury Secretary, a designation he leveraged to press for a national bank’s establishment. In the 1804 duel, Hamilton was slain by his bitter foe Aaron Burr, the current vice president, and was later memorialized on the 10-dollar bill.

Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin was one of the prominent figures in American history. He was born in a Boston family and became a statesman, publisher, inventor, author, scientist, and diplomat despite receiving little formal education. He went on to become prosperous after starting a thriving printing business in Philadelphia. Franklin was very involved in public affairs, where he helped establish a hospital, library, and a college, among other projects, and received a commendation for his electrical experiments.

During the early phases of the American Revolution, Franklin was chosen to join the 5-member committee that authored the Declaration of Independence. He subsequently sailed to France, gathering French support for the war endeavors, and aided in negotiating the Treaty of Paris, ending the conflict in 1783. He was a delegate of the convention that established the United States Constitution in 1787, his final substantial act of public duty.

John Adams

John Adams, a well-known Massachusetts attorney, supported the revolutionary cause. Like Franklin, John, too was a committee member who outlined the Declaration of Independence. In addition, he traveled to France to gain military assistance and helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris. John Adams also led other chief committees and took the time to develop the Massachusetts Constitution, which is currently in use too.

After nearly a decade of his diplomatic service overseas, John Adams returned home in 1788. He then lost to George Washington in the election but was elected as the first vice president of the United States. However, after Washington’s two terms, Adams became president and served from 1797 to 1801. On July 4, 1826, Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day.
