The travel and tourism industry has an excellent record of female representation. The latest study by Phocuswright found that men and women in the travel industry gave the industry’s gender equality a four-star rating on a five-point scale. While only 21% of men rated gender equality as excellent, 57% of women gave it a four-star rating. Additionally, 60% of women surveyed said that a lack of female leaders in the travel industry was the biggest obstacle to their advancement.
Importance of Women in the Travel Industry
While the travel industry is increasingly female-friendly, the top management remains overwhelmingly male-dominated. This study of more than 300 professionals found that women represent 70 percent of the industry’s workforce. This group’s 50 most influential female members hail from all sectors and include visionaries, pragmatists, trailblazers, and message shapers. Yet there are no definite data about the gender divide in the industry. But despite their successes, they still face unique challenges.
